Going into the final round of the PGA Championship on Sunday, Tiger Woods had a 2-shot lead. Now, in most cases, a 2-shot lead going into Sunday isn't a lay down, particulary with the caliber of this field. But this is Tiger Woods we're talking about...and this is a Major. The final Major of the year, and El Tigre's last chance to chip away at the Golden Bear's record of 18 Majors. So who threw the wet gold towel over the party? Obviously, Y.E. Yang. Come on, a household name...if you live in South Korea.
We don't handicap a lot of golf at adamwins.com, simply because every tournament would be in a circle with Tiger as a prohibitive favorite. But...but...as a reader of players, I will tell you this, I did see something in one of the post-round press conferences that lead me to believe Tiger could be had. It was a question late in the session that mentioned the word CHOKE. Tiger's response was an uncharacteristic silence, and a hitch in his usual glib self. I knew at that moment that there was a crack of daylight for David to take down Goliath.
It played out Sunday. Good looks, but missed putts. Conservative shots, no eye of the Tiger. Now, we are not past-posting, but it wasn't out of the relm to see Y.E. win this. He has won on the Asian Tour, and this year here in the states at the Honda Classic. For Tiger fans, it was unfathomable. Almost as if you were to watch a replay of the final round tonight...Tiger would win. After all, 14 for 14 when leading after 54 holes in a Major...a mortal lock. I guess that's why they tee it up.
