You couldn't miss it… 300-pound linemen sporting pink footwear, pink wristbands, and pink gloves.
You got a problem with that? Tell them. It was great.
If you happened to tune into the PGA golf coverage, you saw the same thing, lots of pink amidst all the green. It was all part and parcel of a concerted effort amongst the pro sports leagues to raise cancer awareness.
It's ironic in a way. The press loves to pick apart pro athletes, their performance, their lifestyles; just about any picayune morsel they can find. It's the nature of the media beast. But the truth is, other than charity or cause-specific entities, pro leagues are the largest contributors to health related charities or anyone in need.
The participating athletes were not mandated to wear pink. It was voluntary, and I for one think they made a pretty good showing. And if you looked carefully, those who chose to pink it, were the top-tier players…not a surprise.
It's not because they make the most money, or they need a charity write-off, I think it's just their nature.
For those of you who don’t know me, you'll see that I am, and have always been very involved in charitable causes. I don't talk about it much, because if I did, it would be PR, and not charity.
I also know for a fact that my top VIP players are also huge contributors across a wide range of causes.
Maybe that's why they win more often than not. Maybe just maybe the big handicapper in the sky smiles on them. Of course, my picks don't hurt. But here's a good way to look at it. I believe winners give, and givers win.
This was a good week for everybody.
