Jim has served as a professional consultant to the New York State Lottery and appeared on television programs ranging from ESPN’s “Inside Football” and “Sports Center” to CNN’s esteemed “Crossfire.” He has won numerous handicapping contests, including the Stardust Championship “Winner Takes All” football competition and twice won first place in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Handicapping Contest. In the 2005 World Series of Poker he finished 426 out of 5,600 participants and finished second in the 2010 Bookmaker.com basketball handicapping contest.

His other endeavors include building multi-million dollar businesses in the communication arena as well as building successful websites, weekly radio interviews and articles published around the globe. Picking winners is just one phase of a successful gaming approach. You need to have it all to not only win but hold on to your winnings over the long haul. Success is in the details and Jim Feist measures success not by the sports season, but by the decade.

Baseball is here and I will give you tips on making money in baseball.  There are many ways to bet baseball, unlike years ago when you were limited to either the home or road team and maybe the total. Today, there are a variety of wagers you can make in games.

One thing you have to remember is that the game of baseball has changed over the last 20 or 30 years. At one time, pitchers like Gibson or Koufax would regularly go the distance in their games. Bullpens didn’t have the specialists they have today. Today, you have pitchers in the pen who only go one inning or slightly more to close out games. These “closers” are some of the highest paid pitchers today outside starters.  You also get setup men; these are the pitchers who come in to hold a lead in the 6th thru 8th innings to get your team to the closer. Or, they might be tasked with keeping your team close if they are losing.  Today, baseball is about specialists.

The NCAA tournament moves past the first round and I’ll now take a look at any upsets that may have occurred. I don't really agree that these games are really upsets, yeah when you put a North Carolina up against Lipscomb you make a 20-point line that is the top team against an also ran mid-major. You will notice that the biggest teams, those teams that are favored by 19 points or more, they're all winning. The one exception and probably the biggest upset in some time was Maryland Baltimore County beating top seeded Virginia, 74-54. How historic was this upset? It’s the first time a number 16 seed has upset a number one seed in tournament history!! The great defense of Virginia just couldn’t stop UMBC and their Cavs offense never got on track. This was the upsets of all upsets.

The more minor upsets are happening when you have Wichita State going down or Arizona losing to Buffalo. Let's talk a little bit that one. The PAC-12 has been horrible both in football bowl games and the NCAA tournament in 2017 and 2018. Arizona is the latest team to fall victim to this PAC-12 postseason curse. But was their heart really in that game? Arizona had some much publicized off court issues this year with both players and their coach. Right after their loss to Buffalo, Deandre Ayton and Allonzo Trier both declared their eligibility for the NBA draft. Maybe they had their sights set on the NBA draft rather than the NCAA.
